new york bliss…

This time last week, I was walking into the airport on my way to NYC. The jet lag came and went and now I’m back into my daily routine. Sigh.

Here are a few more shots from my trip. I gotta say, New York really knows how to do up Christmas. I was blown away by all the decorations EVERYWHERE. Sorry for the grainy shots, they’re from my i-phone đŸ™‚

new york love fest…

Last week I was lucky enough to have the trip of a lifetime with two girlfriends. We boarded the red-eye for NYC on Tuesday night and got back in the wee hours of the morning yesterday.

I’ve been to New York a couple of times before, but this was different. It was with friends, so I had to compromise–something I’m not used to. If I hadn’t been “nudged” a little, I wouldn’t have had nearly as many wonderful experiences. This trip was more than just sightseeing, it was life-changing and I’ll always be so grateful that I said “Yes!”.

I’ll be blogging about the trip over the next few days, but I just want to start with one of the highlights for me–walking across the Brooklyn Bridge. I was exhausted and my feet were killing me, but my girlfriend, Kim, insisted on doing it, and I’m so glad she did.

I tried not to take too many “touristy” typical photos. I looked for the quirky or the unusual. Some worked, some didn’t, but here are my faves!!

Kim and Sarah really wanted to see the Love Locks that people have been attaching to the bridge. I was skeptical at first, but I really had fun looking at all the messages that people have painstakingly written on their locks. Kim and Sarah both brought their own to add to the growing collection all over the bridge.

I just fell in love with this police officer. He has such kind eyes and he nearly blushed when I asked if I could take his picture. So sweet.

sore tootsies…

If you’ve ever been to New York City, you know it’s a city of walkers! It’s the end of a long day and my feet feel like two bricks that I have to drag along with each step!

So much for the Manolo Blahniks that mythical women wear all over the uneven pavement in this lovely city. Seems to me, I’ve seen Carrie actually run and jump puddles in said heels on various episodes. I’ll believe it when I see it. Okay….I’ll believe it when I see it in bigger numbers, ’cause I did actually see some insane women wearing ridiculously impossible heals today. I’ll stick to my flip flops, thank you!

We hit the big gift show today and I was really impressed with how big it is. We walked for what seemed like miles (even though Mark assures me that it was 6 blocks at best…hmph). I spotted lots of beautiful products.

I’m a big fan of Cath Kidston fabrics, so I loved these fine china mugs!

This display was presented by a Belgian supplier, and I could have just rolled around in the girliness of it all! Wish you could be here with me to ooh and ah as much as I did.

I loved this lamb’s wool and stainless steel bench! If only I could ship it–I’d definitely carry it on my website!

These were exquisite mini vases with moss. The entire display was fetching!!!

That’s it for now! It’s 10:15 p.m. and I’ve got a piece of White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake calling my name–it is New York, afterall!!!

New York, baby…

I’m here. I’m in Manhattan, and I’ve got a permanent smile on my face! It’s time for the New York International Gift Fair, which means I get to walk through aisle after aisle of product displays–like a kid in a candy store!!!

The trip started last night with an aptly named “red-eye” flight out of Vancouver. I thought you might like to see one of the weirdest snack foods I have EVER seen in an airport…er…ANYWHERE!!!

That’s one sassy pickle I WON’T be eating EVER!!! Can you imagine sitting crammed up against someone eating that on a plane?

And speaking of planes, I just want to put it out there to the universe that I can’t help but despise the smug business-class chumps, who get to load first and then recline in individual sleeping cubicles, while the rest of us economy-class saps shuffle past to the back of the plane. As much as I despise them, I wanted to be one of them sooooo bad!

After arriving at the gorgeous London Hotel in Manhattan, Mark and I promptly fell into sumptuous bed for an hours-long nap. Then it was time for some serious New York noshing. This is HALF of the pastrami sandwich I ordered at the Carnegie Deli on 7th Ave. Awe-inspiring! I barely finished half, but the three men at the table beside us actually told Mark he was their hero ’cause he wolfed down an entire pastrami sandwich.

We’re off to the show tomorrow, and I’ll keep you posted–whether you like it or not–with lots of product shots!

dreaming New York City…

Every year I sit at my computer in July, desperately trying to find some place that Mark and I can take our kids for a vacation–an exercise in futility! This year, I’m finally getting organized. I’ve got a plan. I’m crossing my fingers that it all works out!

I’m going to the New York Gift Show (my dream shopping trip) in August, and I’m dragging the whole fam damily with me. Mark and I love NYC, but we haven’t taken the kids there yet. After the show, we’ll travel up the coast toward Cape Cod. Yippeeeeee!!!!

Here’s to dreaming of summer!
