lovely, Lonny, just lovely…

Lonny magazine is one of my favorite online haunts. I can be found most days lurking on their website, pouring over the pages of each new issue. I was particularly inspired to see all the wonderful shots of fabulous design ideas yesterday. So it’s time to share the love…

I really like everything about this room. The wall color is so soothing and the headboard’s fabulous tongue-in-cheek upholstery gives such a fabulous pop of color. When you get tired of it, you can change it up easily ’cause the room is so neutral.

This bedroom has such a refreshing combination of really bold colors and patterns–nothing’s too heavy and serious. Again, it works because of the neutral white background, and because orange and turquoise are such a power couple! You do realize that I’m making this all up as I go along! I have no formal training–just a good eye for design (at least I think so, but if you saw my own home, you’d shudder)!

Isn’t that a fabulous bookshelf? I’ve got to find some ceramic busts for Nicole Jane Home ’cause I just love how it looks! And look at the ikat dish up on the top shelf–it’s a hot pattern right now. So it the red bamboo & zebra print chair! Someone took a lot of time and care setting up this display–I dare you to take down a book to read it!

And just because I’m heading for my book club tonight, I thought I’d throw in this cozy reading corner with the enviable collection of books! I should be draped over this chaise eating grapes and drinking wine whilst reading a steamy bodice ripper!

hooray for orange…

In case I haven’t mentioned it (over and over again while looking in the mirror)…I love the colour of my red hair. Maybe that’s why I love the colour orange! So here’s my little Friday indulgence…let’s hear it for ORANGE!!!

The February/March issue of Lonny Magazine features the home of L.A. designer, Betsy Burnham. She uses just the right hits of orange throughout her home. Anything more would tilt the colour into the “annoying” category.

Drooooooool. Hermes chose the colour of my hair for its iconic line of products, including their signature boxes which have become a sought-after decor accessory!!!!

This is a painting I did a few years ago (acrylic on canvas). Please excuse the photo’s quality–I am a LOUSY…er….LAZY…er…IMPATIENT photographer.

Orange is goofy and playful…but she can be pretty darn SHMEXY too (she might be a tad unsteady on anything higher than flip flops though…sigh). Just look at these Christian Louboutin shoes from Polyvore.Me like…

me want…

orange bike

(hmmm…I should submit that for some haiku contests).

by Orange Girl Photographs

I found this bike on a brilliantly-monikered website–Orange Girl Photographs. Apparently Orange Girl used to drive an orange Superbeetle VW bug when she was in art school. Guess what! I used to drive an orange Superbeetle VW bug when I was at school. Sadly (sorry mom & dad)…I was taking Political Science at UBC…not ART at Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design!!!!!

Last, but by no means least…the beloved Creamsicle–nature’s creamiest orange cool treat. Gotta go phone Mark to pick some up on the way home from work…bye for now.

instant glamour…

Don’t get me wrong…I don’t drink a lot, but I love a great cocktail. They’re so elegant, so sophistimicated. Put a cocktail in my hand and I instantly channel Audrey Hepburn…some might say Carrot Top. There’s something so “grown-up” about a cocktail cart in the living room or on the patio. Even if it’s temporary for a get together with friends, a tray with drinks, great glasses and garnishes is such a classy touch.

This article appears in Lonny Magazine‘s February online issue. If you haven’t seen Lonny, it’s a fantastic e-magazine.
