advice please…

I’m thinking of adding a couple of items this week, and I’d love to get your input…give it to me straight: “Best idea evah” versus “What, are you nuts?”

I’m thinking Brit Chic…tongue-in-cheek…for the hipsters out there!

I bought a set of these mixed plastic flatware sets in Seattle, and they’re the first ones I reach for when I set the table. They’re just so pretty! Again…I’m appealing to the hipster picnicers!!

what's new?…

I’ve been thinking about adding these Cobi Style and Steven & Chris products to the Nicole Jane Home collection, but I thought I’d better ask what you think first.Anything that you like? Anything that you don’t like? Please take a minute to fill out the poll–you can check off as many as you like.

eye candy…

Want to see some FAB photos from my Christmas shoot with uber-talented Janis Nicolay? Behold the wonder, the beauty, the brilliance…too much? I didn’t think so either. I can just tell that I’m going to use way too many exclamation marks in this post!!!

Janis took 63 shots during the shoot, so keep your eyes on Nicole Jane Home to see the rest of them throughout the Christmas season!!! They’re fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

April Cornell A, B or C…

I’d love to hear what you think about April Cornell’s 2011 collection of table & kitchen linens. I regularly use your advice for making my purchasing decisions, and this time it’s really important ’cause they’re all gorgeous–I’m having a hard time making up my mind. Please take the survey below.

lights, camera…

Here’s a sneak peak at our location home for the Nicole Jane Home Christmas photo shoot. It’s a home of my friend, Sara, who graciously agreed to let us take over her lovely abode for a few hours in a couple of weeks. She’s a neat freak, so I didn’t mention that we’ll be trucking in boxes and boxes of props and products, lighting and camera equipment…oops.

Sara has a great sense of style! She picked up the FABULOUS silk drapery panels at Pottery Barn, the ebony table from Liberty, and the gorgeous lucite chairs at IKEA. (How come I NEVER find good stuff at IKEA? I must be blind as a bat ’cause all my friends get great stuff there!) She has beautiful, unique light fixtures throughout the house, and the lantern over the dining room table was my favorite. Sara’s also artistically-gifted…see the hot pink canvas behind the table? She’s working on a feature piece that will be mounted in her living room. I can’t tell you what it is yet, but I’m hoping she’ll have it done in time for the shoot.

The whole house is subtle shades of gray, white, and black, but she let loose on the powder room with a gorgeous shade of hot pink. My i-phone camera doesn’t do the room justice.

I could happily spend the day luxuriating in her soaker tub. The cathedral ceiling made the room feel spacious, light and airy. Just lovely.

The kitchen countertops are made of gorgeous black granite salvaged from an old school house in Bellingham, Washington.

Can’t wait to get my hands on her house and create some beautiful shots for the website. Thanks, Sara!!!

trinkets and treasures…

As promised, here are some more sneak peaks from the NYIGF last week.

One of the absolute standouts for me was Roost’s recycled paper dog. I don’t know what it is, but I’m just drawn to that mutt. I think I might bring them in to Nicole Jane Home and see if anyone else loves them as much as I do (if I can bare to actually sell them and not keep them all for myself).

Blue and amethyst are still strong design color, and I just loved this display. The lamp was gorgeous, even though my crummy photography doesn’t really show it off properly. Give me a break…I had to take pictures rather quickly and discreetly, if you know what I mean…

I fell in love with these pillows. They’re Australian lambs wool. Hmmm…I just realized I had a bad case of “missing my babies” while we were in NYC (let’s be absolutely clear about this…I meant my dogs, not the kids!!!!). Pious Mark, is accusing me of being an unfit mother for saying that. What a hypocrite…he didn’t miss them either.

Besides…my dear wise blog followers know me, and know what kind of selfless, generous, caring, loving mother I really am. In other words, you know I’m a smart-ass, wise-cracking, sarcastic, tongue-in-ample-cheek, doesn’t-mean-a-word-of-it mother.

I have a thing about glassware, and these glasses were gorgeous. They had a great weight and little air bubbles throughout the glass.

I always have to be mindful about choosing the right products for shipping throughout North America (read: packages involved in epic postal football games). Last Christmas we experienced disastrous results shipping glass ornaments, so this year, I’m looking for stylish but sturdy!

So there you have it. A few of my favorite things…now it’s just a matter of matching my desires with my budget. Ugh!!!

market sneak peak…

The NYIGF (New York International Gift Fair) is probably the largest gift show anywhere in the world. It’s a massive accumulation of home accessory/gifts/decor suppliers all under one roof (actually three huge roofs).

Mark and I travelled to NYC last week (in case you hadn’t heard a million times already) to see the show. It was really interesting, but I have to say, that there were only a handful of suppliers that really stood out to me. To be fair, though, I was focused on specific types of products and really didn’t pay attention to all the others.

I did, however, pay attention to trends and colors, and I’m happy to report that silver still appears to be the strongest design color/finish. Blue and amethyst are both quite popular and gold is certainly showing up more and more.

Here are some of the standout things I spotted:

You might recognize these little pretties from the survey I blogged about some time ago. They’re lovely, but their price point is too high, in my (and yours if you filled out the survey) opinion.

These were absolutely gorgeous flatware sets. They’re heavy, good quality and the patterns were fabulous. I still don’t know the price point, but I suspect they aren’t INEXPENSIVE. Check out the giraffe print below–it was gorgeous in real life (PLEASE EXCUSE THE CRUMMY PHOTOGRAPHY–if you read my blog faithfully–you better be–you know that I’m one heck of a lousy photographer).

I saw lots of balls. All sorts of decor balls–wicker, branches, porcelain, etc. These ones stood out for me.

Here’s a look at some of the silver accessories I spotted.

That’s all for today. I’m saving some more tidbits for another post later this week. That’s some powerful cliffhanger, eh? It’s like waiting for the next episode of Mad Men!!!! Stay tuned.
