painting inspiration…

Project 365 Photos: #68

I finally got around to painting on the big hot pink canvas I prepared last year! The sunshine and blossoms we’re starting to enjoy inspired me and got my creative juices flowing again. I’m having fun experimenting with some new oil paints that can be cleaned up with water–who knew?

my, oh my, magnolia…

I literally stopped in my tracks and pulled over my truck to get a shot of this magnificent magnolia tree. It’s the first of a street full of these beautiful trees to bloom. I’m lucky to live where such beauty arrives each spring 🙂

Horseshoe Coins & Antiques is a vintage shop in Blaine, Washington. I try to make a stop there every time I visit my U.S. mailbox. I love looking through the treasures tucked in every corner. The owner even pointed me in the direction of the fabulous retro red Pontiac he’s selling outside the shop.

Yesterday’s fieldtrip to Vancouver was an epicurean delight. I felt like a greedy pig when we finally packed up and returned home. Our first stop was Meat and Bread, where I had the most delicious fresh roasted porchetta sandwich. They double bake then chop up the crackling and sprinkle it on the roasted pork before placing it in the freshly-baked ciabatta buns slathered with salsa verde. Bliss. I guess this means I’m not vegetarian after all.

After lunch we stopped in at Revolver Coffee for some hand-brewed coffee that is absolutely de-li-cious! Such nice guys running the counters. It appears everyone in Gastown is super friendly, and a little bit hipster, true story!

And because all of that wasn’t enough, we popped in to Kerrisdale for a little taste of Paris at Faubourg. The orange, chocolate meringue tart was simply out of this world! Worth every expensive crumb!!!!!

It’s Spring Break for BC students and today we paid another visit to our favourite spot in Vancouver–Gastown. It was buzzing full of Friday shoppers and people escaping their offices for fresh air and lunch. I discovered my new retail crush–Old Faithful Shop. I was drooling over the pure wool Hudson’s Bay blankets and the bare element lightbulbs and fixtures. I even love the company mascot asleep in his cubby. I’ll definitely go back soon. Gotta love my iPhone, especially when I don’t want to carry my DSLR around all day.

I can’t resist these sturdy little harbingers of spring. They’re the perfect little flowers, standing straight and proud, even in the frigid temperatures. I defy you to pass a crocus without smiling 🙂

cherry blossoms…

It’s snowing in most of the province, but in our little corner of BC, it’s snowing blossoms instead. It’s the beginning of cherry blossom season, and everything is looking a whole lot prettier around here!

I am absolutely convinced that laughter is the fountain of youth, and it looks like I’m going to be 13 for the rest of my life!

Today, one of my besties, Kim, and I grabbed our cameras and headed out into the sunshine. Kim ( WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot4 ) makes me laugh hardcore whenever we’re together. She just has to look at me, and I’m off on a wild ride. Together, we’re the type of idiots who you see doubled over, laughing hysterically at city park signs that alert the public to high levels of beaver activity…booyah!

Kim’s a lovable friend, who has seen me through thick and thin over the years. She gets me and I get her. How lucky is that? My wish for everyone is that you all have a Kim who keeps you 13 too!!!!
