Forest Fire

Day two of Photo 365. I’m kinda kicking myself for labeling my first photo of the year as #365, ’cause now I have to do a backward countdown. It’s sorta like going down a slide or a ski hill backwards! Sorry my friends but we’re stuck with it.

It’s an amazingly beautiful December 30th here in Ocean Park, and we just took a walk with the dogs. I slung my new Nikon around my neck and delighted in its light weight. I used to struggle with my Pentax ’cause it’s much heavier and I’ve got a sensitive neck.

I don’t know about you, but I think winter in the northwest is a completely dreary time of year for outdoor photography. There are only so many wet cedar branches and holly bushes worthy of digital memory space–let’s get real…there aren’t ANY that are worthy.

Understandably, we northwesterners turn to our walking companions for subject matter, but when they (AKA your unwilling teenage daughter) threaten to block any photographs posted and report you to the Facebook mafia, you end up right back where you started, taking indoors shots of home decor.

My sweet little Santa elf is so old that his beautiful red coat and hat turned brown.

Merry Christmas dear friends! I hope the spirit of Christmas filled your hearts, and you basked in the light of the people you love.

I’ve decided to turn a new page just before the big crystal ball drops on Monday night! I’m itching to get going, which is surprising considering my deep fear of committing to ANYTHING EVER (except my wedding vows…so far, they’re sticking…miraculous). I’m determined to shoot 365 photos by the end of the year! That’s right…you heard me. I’m actually going to take at least one photo a day and post it here. Bam!

I said it, so now it’s real. Now the teeth gnashing and squirming begin. Just like Harry Houdini, trying to break free from the ropes around my wrists and ankles. Meh…whatever…I’ll just shoot the stupid pictures and see what happens.

It’s an Etsy Christmas encore…

Who doesn’t love Etsy? It’s a mecca of amazement designed especially for all you Christmas gift hunter-gatherers out there. I’ve been trolling the site looking for gift ideas and just thought I’d share these little treasures…

Christmas bling…

Time for Christmas decorating. The Christmas carols are cranked up, and first up is my fireplace mantel. I’m thinking flickering candlelight with Christmas tree lights reflecting off crystal and silver ornaments. In the words of the uber-stylish Martha Stewart…it’s a good thing!!!! Next up…the beloved fresh Christmas tree this weekend. Yay!
